Instance Variables Pane

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Instance Variables Pane allows you to view an object via the contents of its instance variables. These may give you a more complete picture of the internal state of an object rather than that which you get from the published aspects.

The left-hand area shows a tree of the instance variables available for the object being inspected. It is a tree because each instance variable will in turn contain an object which may have instance variables of its own. When you select a variable in this tree, the contained object will be displayed in the workspace pane at the right. You may modify the contents of this pane with a Smalltalk expression and assign this back to the instance variable in question using Workspace/Accept (Ctrl+S).
