Building a COM component

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The following is the recommended sequence of steps when building a COM component in Dolphin. It is not always necessary (or possible) to follow this sequence, but you should start off this way.

1.Acquire or Write IDL
2.Build type library
3.Generate Interfaces using Active-X wizard
4.Define COMInterfaceImp subclass
5.Add protocol/drag down COM interface method category
6.Define #clsid
7.Define #supportedInterfaces
8.Test in-image – should fail.
9.Flesh out using normal process – e.g. program in the Debugger.
10.See Testing & Debugging

We are going to follow the steps through with the “COM Random Sample”, so if you want to follow along you will need to uninstall the sample package from the image.
