Programming Animation in Dolphin Smalltalk (Part 3)

Continuing on from Part 2 of this programme, Andy Bower starts to build the main game window by combining a number of MVP components.

Viewing using QuickTime has the advantage that you can use chapter markers to quickly jump to different locations within the programme.

In this session, Andy will demonstrate how to:

  • Use Dolphin Professional tools such as the System Browser and IdeaSpace.
  • Create a composite Shell presenter out of existing MVP components.
  • Use the View Composer to create a composite view and connect it to the presenter.
  • Make Layout Managers do the work of arranging views in a window.
  • Build a menu bar with the Menu Composer.
  • Define ListView columns.
  • Perform simple code refactorings in the Dolphin browsers.

If you wish to peek ahead, the final Smalltalk code for the game is available in a Dolphin source package for you to load into a Community Edition or Professional image. The code supplied below is a slightly refined version of the game shown in video programme 4; the logic is the same but the appearence has been somewhat spiced up.
